We are currently planning a speaker series in the first half of 2010.

Washington County Joint-CPO Trees Group Speaker Series

The group is hosting a series of seminars this spring on trees and the urban forest, and invites citizen participation organization (CPO) members and the general public to attend.  All seminars are free, and will be preceded by a Joint CPO Tree Code business meeting at 6:00 p.m., also open to anyone who is interested.

Location: OSU Extension Office. Room 1411E (18640 NW Walker Road http://extension.oregonstate.edu/washington/find-us)

Join us for two topics:

o        Trees, Stormwater and You - Sheri Wantland, public involvement coordinator with Clean Water Services, will talk about how trees help manage stormwater run-off and assistance programs that are available to homeowners to help with tree planting and\or stormwater management.  Come learn what the public can do to prevent and report stormwater problems (i.e. silt fences, overflowing streams, filled catch basins due to leaves in the gutter, etc).

o        Terry Flanagan, Consulting Arborist at Teragan & Associates, will discuss the importance of and care of trees during the storm season in the Pacific Northwest.  Our speaker will discuss general tree maintenance and how to spot tree problems before they become serious and take questions from the audience.

Location: Beaverton Resource Center 12500 SW Allen Blvd., Beaverton (Corner of Hall and Allen)

Trees and Low Impact Development - Sheila Greenlaw-Fink, executive director of Community Partners for Affordable Housing, and Brian Wegener of Tualatin Riverkeepers will speak about the challenges and rewards of low impact development (LID).  Topics will include design and placement of structures, selection and placement of trees and landscaping, and long-term benefits and concerns.


May 27, Thursday 7pm  (reg mtg at 6)

Location: Beaverton Library Conference Room

The Role of Urban Forest Habitat in Wildlife Conservation – Lori Hennings, Senior Natural Resource Scientist at Metro, and Jim Labbe, Urban Conservationist with Portland Audubon Society, will focus on wildlife connectivity, backyard and street trees as part of our greater landscape, and conservation issues in urban and suburban areas.


June 24, Thursday 7pm  (reg mtg at 6)

Location: Beaverton Library Conference Room

Friends of Trees Program Director, Brighton West, will be discussing their Neighborhood Trees planting programs, their involvement in Washington County and plans for the future.
